About CraftedBy Mhairi
Sustainable Artistry Rooted in Nature & Connection.
I’m Mhairi, a maker and theatre artist based in the coastal town of Weston-super-Mare, North Somerset.
I hold a BA (Hons) in Design for Theatre and Live Performance from Nottingham Trent University.
My work spans bespoke theatre props, masks, upcycled costumes, scenic set pieces, and even hand-poured Somerset beeswax candles - all created with care and intention. I prioritise recycled, upcycled, and eco-friendly materials wherever possible, adapting thoughtfully when needed to achieve the best artistic result while keeping my environmental impact as low as I can.
My path into inclusive creative work began with hands-on roles supporting adults with Autism and learning difficulties in a residential home, followed by work in a SEND school. These experiences showed me the transformative power of creativity for people of all ages and abilities. Today I am on an Early Careers Artist Placement with Somerset Youth Theatre, where I continue to develop my practice in a local, youth-focused setting.
This background gives me a deeply inclusive and empathetic approach to facilitation. I’ve seen how drama, making, and performance can build confidence, create connection, and spark genuine joy - and it’s why I’m so excited to launch my own hands-on creative workshops near the end of 2026. These will focus on mask-making, prop-building (including simple Arduino electronics and interactivity), upcycled costume techniques, and more - designed for schools, youth theatres, community groups, and inclusive projects across Somerset and North Somerset.
My journey began with a love of crafting and sustainable living, including sourcing pure beeswax directly from trusted local Somerset beekeepers. Over time this has grown into a broader creative practice that celebrates local inspiration, thoughtful making, and community. Profits from every sale help support this path - whether buying materials for theatre builds, continuing my apiary learning, or preparing resources for the workshops ahead.
My vision is simple yet powerful: to create spaces where art, nature, and storytelling come together to inspire and include everyone.
